The Daniel and Henry Co. leads by example
June 30, 2015: St. Louis, MO—Employees at The Daniel and Henry Co. were up for the challenge this year to get in shape, lose weight, eat healthier and get active! After completing 2 quarters in “The Biggest Winner” challenge, Daniel and Henry’s team is 854.8 pounds lighter. And two local charities, St. Louis Area Foodbank and The Humane Society of Missouri, benefitted from all of this weight loss.
How’d they do it?
Season 1 (1st Quarter) kicked off in January; 60 people accepted the challenge to get fit and healthy. They were divided into teams, paid $20 each and had their first weigh-in Thursday, January 15th. Weekly weigh-in results were posted only in percentages, not actual pounds. The “biggest winner” each week earned prizes like Hula-Hoops, ankle weights, exercise bands and jump ropes, and the biggest winner overall took home 50% of the cash – or $600, in this case – with the other 50% going to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.
Total weight lost in Season 1? A whopping 618.6 pounds!
Daniel and Henry also made a commitment to donate the equivalent of the pounds they lost in food items to the St. Louis Area Foodbank, one of its’ non-profit clients. Daniel and Henry’s staff collected 600 pounds of food, which translates to 490 meals for the hungry in Greater St. Louis (the average American meal weighs 1.225 lbs.). Additionally, through Daniel and Henry Co.’s Jeans BeCause initiative, St. Louis Area Foodbank received a $1,500 donation, which equals to 6,000 meals.
Season 2 had 51 participants and added BMI (Body Mass Index) calculations for those who wanted to track their BMI results. Season 2 ended May 21 – and the team at Daniel & Henry lost another 236 pounds. The Humane Society of Missouri will receive $500 worth of pet supplies they have on their wish list. Additionally, they were the featured Jeans BeCause charity and will receive a check for $1,500.
The Daniel and Henry Company’s “Biggest Winner” participants lost a total of 854.6 pounds in Seasons 1 and 2 – a mere 18 weeks of losing an average of 47 pounds per week!
“This is a win-win for our company and our clients. Our employees are getting healthier, and we have an opportunity to use our success as another reason to support great local charities,” said Bob Harrison, President of The Daniel and Henry Co.
Season 3 began June 11. This time the challenge is individually-based (instead of team-based, as in the previous two seasons).Share
